Know your “local long distance” rates

When talking about phone service, there are generally two types of calls: local calls and long distance calls. Not exactly. There are also “local long distance” calls, too, in some areas.
define: local long distance
A local toll call, also known as “intralata toll call” or “local toll call,” is a call that is too close to the calling location to be considered long distance but too far from the calling location to be considered local.
With local long distance calls, a caller may be required to dial “1″ plus the area code for the call despite the fact that the call is within the same area code. Thus, having to dial “1″ plus the area code for calls within the same area code is a good indicator that you may be subject to local toll call rates.
Be aware of this when signing up for a long distance calling plan and make sure that you know what your “local long distance” or “local toll call” rates will be before signing up.
