While also backing home loans, the Federal Housing Authority helps lower-income Americans by making sure they have a roof over their head.
This week, the department is celebrating Neighborhood Networks week, which is an effort to further empower people who live in FHA-supported housing.
The week features days dedicated to securing a job, understanding the growing role of technology and encouraging people to get to know their neighbors.
Carol Galante, FHA deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Multifamily Housing, noted that the Neighborhood Networks program has been assisting individuals for 15 years.
"We hope every Neighborhood Networks center across the country will take some time during this week to recognize the vital role they play in the lives of so many residents living in their community," Galante said.
As the FHA celebrates its week for connecting and empowering neighbors, it also got a boost from Congress recently. The department’s multifamily insurance programs got an additional $5 billion, according to a report from the Mortgage Bankers Association. This could assist in developing more housing for individuals who may not be able to afford their own home.
