Internet Message Access Protocol. IMAP is a language used to access email on an ISP’s server without directly downloading it to a client’s computer. With IMAP, email is stored on the ISP’s server until the client decides what to do with it. This differs from POP, where email downloaded from the server directly to the client’s local computer.
