Bundle

Refers to a group of various telecommunications services, such as Internet access, cell phone service and home phone (landline) service, that is offered by a telecommunications company to a potential customer, usually at a discounted rate. For example, a company may offer Internet access for one price but also a bundle of services that includes both Internet access and home phone service for price that is less than pruchasing each service individually.

SPAM Filter

A computer program or software that attempts to elimate or greatly reduce SPAM emails through a variety of techniques. Many SPAM will eliminate the majority of SPAM before it even reaches your inbox.

Internet Service Provider

Internet Service Provider. Companies that provide access to the Internet for a fee. ISPs provide access to the Internet in many different formats, at many different speeds and for many different prices. From dial-up to DSL to T1 lines, ISPs come in many differnt forms.

IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol. IMAP is a language used to access email on an ISP’s server without directly downloading it to a client’s computer. With IMAP, email is stored on the ISP’s server until the client decides what to do with it. This differs from POP, where email downloaded from the server directly to the client’s local computer.

Post Office Protocol. POP is a language used to download email from the ISP’s server directly to a client’s computer. This differs from IMAP, where email is accessed by the client but not downloaded from the server.

LAN

Antivirus Software

Router

Wireless Router

A networking device that functions both as a router and as a wireless access point. Wireless routers are often used to create computer networks and/or give Internet access to multiple computers without the use of cables.

Wi-Fi

Wireless Fidelity. A common term that is often used to decribe a wireless network and allows people to connect to the Internet at hot spots in various locations, such as an airport or restaurant.
