About shared hosting
Shared web hosting is an affordable web hosting scheme in which more than one website is hosted on a single server.
This allows the hosting company to cut costs by decreasing the amount of hardware they need to have in place, and it allows users to save money by sharing space on a single computer. It also lets the hosting company provide cheaper service for its users by passing this savings on to them.
To the average user, the fact that they are on a server that is shared amongst many sites is irrelevant, since they will never notice. Other websites on the same server will not interact with theirs, and it will often appear as though they are on a server by themselves.
