How much power does a Linux/Unix system require?
Unix/Linux power requirements
Unlike a Microsoft Windows environment, both Linux and Unix environments do not require a graphical user interface (GUI) to operate. This means that the power that the computer would have had to use to generate the GUI can instead be channeled towards hosting the website, resulting in faster speeds for both the server and the users accessing the server.
Linux varies slightly from Unix in this regard, because although Unix can be run only without a GUI, many Linux variants can run with a GUI enabled, allowing novice users to more easily find their way around on the system.
