Can others access my files on our shared server?

File access on a shared server

Owners of other websites on your own shared server should not be able to access your files, thanks to file read/write permissions.

Read/write permissions are a set of rules that govern which users on a computer can read and write files on said computer. Under a shared hosting scheme, the only person who will have read and write access to your files is yourself and the owner of the physical computer, which is usually the hosting company. Other users, because they do not have the necessary rights to read from or write to your files, should not be able to view or access them.
