Are discounts available to those in low-risk occupations?

Low-risk occupations and auto insurance discounts

Even though it may not seem fair, there are occupations that some insurance companies consider lower risk than others.

According to reports from McKinsey & Co. presented at national auto insurance conferences, the group that they find gets in the fewest accidents is engineers. Therefore, if you are an engineer, you should ask if they offer any low-risk occupation discount when applying for auto insurance.

Other occupations that may receive discounts on auto insurance include teachers and accountants. If you don’t think you are in a low-risk occupation, it doesn’t hurt to ask. Discounts vary dramatically from company to company.

Some insurance companies also offer discounts to current and retired military members.
