How can I determine the best auto insurance for me?

Determining the best auto insurance

You should consider several factors and weigh their importance to you when trying to find the best auto insurance.

Deductible

Deductible is the amount of money you have to pay when you file a car insurance claim. The lower the deductible you have, the higher your insurance premium rates will be. But also the less out of pocket expense you will have if you ever do have the need to file a claim.

You need to determine which is best for you: higher premiums and a lower deductible, or lower premiums but a higher deductible.

Insurance limits

Each policy you purchase will have limit of how much the insurance company will pay out. There are normally state-mandated minimums for these limits and the policyholder determines how much more insurance they want beyond the minimum. Limits are stated in a policy per person and per incident.

Customer service

To many policyholders, it’s important to have a local insurance office with a 24 hour claims and customer support office. While other customers do not care if their insurance company has a local office in their area as long as they pay their claims in a reasonable amount of time.

Premiums

In addition to the overall cost of the policy, discounts and other factors come into play when paying your insurance premiums. Some car insurance companies offer a discount if you pay the annual premium in one lump sum, while others do not penalize you for paying monthly.

Most insurance carriers will allow you to pay electronically with automatic deductions from your checking account, while some still require a paper check to be mailed in each month.
