Credit Card Tips and Advice - Cash Rebate Credit Cards

tip What to Look for in a Cash Back Credit Card
What type of features should I look for in a cash back credit card?

Cash back credit cards all give cash rewards for purchases made with the card. But there are differences from card to card. Not all cash back credit cards are the same. Before applying for a specific cash back credit card, take the time to read over the terms and conditions. Look for certain features that may make the card more desirable.
  • Does the credit card offer incremental cash back percentages? Some cash back credit cards don't give the highest cash back until a certain amount of purchases have been made. Other cards lower the percentage of cash back given after a certain dollar amount of purchases is reached.

  • Is there a yearly cap on the amount of cash back that you can earn in a year? Some, but not all, cash back credit cards have a yearly cap on earnings.

  • Are there certain places where you can earn a larger cash back percentage on purchases (i.e. grocery stores or gas stations)? Knowing this can put extra cash back in your pocket with little effort.

tip Cash Back Credit Cards Without Annual Fees
Is it worth it to get a cash back credit card that has an annual fee?

Finding the cash back credit card that fits your needs can be made easier by reading the terms and conditions of each offer that you consider. One thing to pay close attention to is whether or not the card has an annual fee.

Some, but not all, cash back credit cards carry an annual fee. Is it worth it to use a cash back card that has an annual fee? In many cases, getting a cash back card with no annual fee is the way to go. Many cash back cards now have no annual fee, and this can only help to keep your cash rewards in your pocket.

If you do opt to apply for a cash back credit card that has an annual fee, make sure that the terms of the card make up for the additional cost. You should be able to earn more cash back faster or have other benefits that are not included with a no-annual-fee card.

tip Cash Back Earnings
How much cash back can I earn?

How much cash back you can earn with your credit card depends largely on the terms and conditions of that specific card offer. However, many cash back credit cards have a couple of things in common.
  • First, many cash back cards only allow cardholders to earn cash back on purchases made with the card. That means that cardholders do not earn cash back on cash advances and balance transfers made with the card.

  • Also, many cash back credit cards not offer higher percentages of cash back on purchases made at certain locations, such drug stores or other select locations. This additional cash back can add up if you make frequent purchases at a location that is included in this type of offer.
Before applying for a specific cash back credit card offer, you can estimate your potential earnings by taking these two points into consideration.

tip Best Cash Back Credit Cards
What are the best cash back credit cards?

When looking for the best cash back credit cards, consider the terms that are being offered in addition to the cash rewards. A credit card that requires a hefty annual fee may cost you more than you are getting back in cash rewards. It also can cost you a lot if you have a high interest rate.

To get the best benefit from cash back credit cards, you should not carry a balance from month to month. In addition, apply for a card that does not charge you an annual fee.

You can also look for a cash back credit card that gives additional cash back on certain types of purchases. Some cards, for example, give higher percentages of cash back on grocery or gas purchases.
