What is an activation fee?

Monday, March 26th, 2007

This is a one-time charge for the activation of a cellular phone and/or new wireless service plan. The activation itself is the act of programming a cell phone, allowing it to be active on the wireless network. A wireless phone will be unable to make and receive calls if it is not activated.

Most carriers charge an activation fee, although the amount often varies. The cost is usually between $20 and $50 and will usually show up on your first monthly bill.
