FICO credit score uses a new scoring model

A recent article detailed changes that Fair Isaac Corporation, the creator of the well-known FICO credit score, made to it’s credit scoring model. The article talks about how the new scoring model for the FICO credit score, which is used by many lenders to judge applicant quality, will attempt to better predict those who are more likely to default on a loan.

Full article: FICO Credit Score Gets Makeover

The new scoring model should be in use by Spring of 2008, and, once the new model is in place, some consumers could feel the changes when applying for a credit card or a new loan.

It’s always wise to stay on top of your finances and be fully aware what is and is not listed on your credit report. Home Improvement Credit Cards

Credit Cards That Give Home Improvement Rewards

We have introduced a new category of credit cards to make your credit card search as quick and easy as possible. Home improvement reward credit cards offer reward programs to cardholders that are geared toward home improvement rewards and rebates.

There are two main “types” of home improvment credit cards:

1. Credit cards that allow cardholders to accumulate reward points that can be used to redeem home-improvement related rewards. For example, a credit card may have a reward program in which cardholders accumulate points that can be redeemed for home improvement store gift cards, actual physical home improvement goods or home mortgage rebates. This example is purely hypothetical.

2. Credit cards that allow cardholders to earn additional rewards or rebates for “home improvement” purchases. For example, a cash back credit card may offer 1% cash back on all purchases, while offering an additional 1% cash back (for a total of 2%) on purchases made at home improvement stores. Again, this example is purely hypothetical.

Make your next credit card decision a knowledgeable one. A well-picked credit card reward program can be very valuable to a cardholder, as long as that cardholder uses the card responsibly and makes all payments on time. See our rewards categories breakdown for more information about different types of credit card reward programs or visit our credit card tips and advice for answers to common questions about credit card reward programs.

Analyze Your Budget as a Full-Time Student

Our new student budget calculator allows students to determine a reasonable budget as a full-time student. This calculator is specifically designed to help students understand their expenses and income while attending a university, college or other educational institution.

To begin, students input estimated expenses and income for an eight-month school year running from September through April. This calculator allows students to estimate the cost of school expenses, food, entertainment, travel, clothing, and other miscellaneous personal expenses.

These expenses are then measured up against the total of all expected income and contributions. This will allow the student to see if he/she needs to make any adjustments to estimated expenses or seek additional funds via student loans or other sources.

In addition to raising rates and fees, some lenders are simply making certain student loans more difficult to obtain.
